Formed in late 1997 by founding members Gunnar Lööf (vocals/guitar) and Sebastian Sippola (drums), Southfork wasn’t really a full band until the summer of 1998 when Henrik Bergqvist (guitar) completed the line-up.
Recently a new bass-player, Thomas Thorberg joined the band and thereby replaced Anders Fästader who was the original bassist of the band.
Well, what has happened so far? –In the winter of 1997/98 a mutual acquaintance of the band heard their first demo and immediately played it to a long time friend of his, Börje Forsberg, the manager of Black Mark Productions. He in turn made his interest known to the band and they started to discuss how to proceed from there.
The result was the band’s self titled debut album “Southfork”, which was released in late August 1999 throughout Europe. The reviews following the release were very positive and several of the biggest rock magazines in Europe praised the album and followed up with either interviews or articles, which led to the album getting onto many playlists on various radiostations.
Not content with just sitting back and enjoying the words of appreciation, the band started right away to write and record material for their follow-up.
Southfork is now about to enter the studio to record their second album “Straight Ahead” together with producer and engineer, Tomas Skogsberg. The album will be released in the late spring of 2000 on Black Mark Productions / SPV.
Plans are also well under way for the band to meet their audience in Europe, with a focus on Germany and neighboring countries in the first half of 2000. Fans of the band can expect more of the “no mercy” blues inspired riff-rock that was the trademark of the first album but now even heavier and with an addition of some 70’s psycadelia thrown into the mix.
The “Straight Ahead” album is certainly a step in the right direction and will not let any true hardrock fan down.
