CEMETARY - AN EVIL SHADE OF GRAY - BMCD20 99kr

Review by Therold:
DeathMetal actually, though far from Cannibal Corpse and such gore-stained performances (that I so often dislike).
An Evil Shade of Grey is quite ordinary music with the slight catch of originality a few albums could have from the late 80thís and early 90thís, a somewhat different atmospheric touch. This album does remind me of Amorphis premature Privilege of Evil and Karelian Isthmus because of sound picture, layouts, message and so on, but most important the albums represent the first stage in their up- coming historical events.
One thing is very special, the voice of Cemetary, main-man Mathias Lodmalm, maybe one of the greatest songwriters ever when it comes to their seemingly simple melodies and uttermost grieving and catchy lyrics. Itís just that he plays with his heart, you can hear the pain in his voice. This is surely more like simple DeathMetal for the untrained listener. Itís not Death, and itís not Doom. Itís just Cemetary and itís special.
An Evil Shade of Grey isnít the greatest of albums, that I can say, though still a must for the collector putting interest in
